You've got your blog set up and you've started posting pithy, useful information that your niche market would benefit from and enjoy. Days go by, you keep publishing, but no one comments and your traffic stats are barely registering. What do you do?

Like any website you own, you must do some blog promotion to start driving traffic to your site. Here are 16 steps, in no particular order of importance, that you can start doing now to get traffic moving to your blog.

1. Set up a Bloglet subscription form on your blog and invite everyone in your network to subscribe: family, friends, colleagues, clients, associates.

3. Read and comment on other blogs that are in your target niche. Don't write things like "nice blog" or "great post." Write intelligent, useful comments with a link to your blog.

4. Use Ping-0-matic to ping blog directories. Do this every time you publish.

Tip: Create a form to track your submissions; this can take several hours when you first start so schedule an hour a day for submitting or hire a VA to do it for you.

7. Add a link to your blog in your email signature file.

8. Put a link to your blog on every page of your website.

9. If you publish a newsletter, make sure you have a link to your blog in every issue.

10. Include a link to your blog as a standard part of all outgoing correspondence such as autoresponder sequences, sales letters, reports, white papers, etc.

11. Print your blog URL on your business cards, brochures and flyers.

12. Make sure you have an RSS feed URL that people can subscribe to. The acronym RSS means Rich Site Summary, or some may consider its meaning as Really Simple Syndication. It is a document type that lists updates of websites or blogs available for syndication. These RSS documents (also known as 'feeds') may be read using aggregators (news readers). RSS feeds may show headlines only or both headlines and summaries.

13. Post often to keep attracting your subscribers to come back and refer you to others in their networks; include links to other blogs, articles and websites in your posts

14. Use Trackback links when you quote or refer to other blog posts. What is TrackBack? Essentially what this does is send a message from one server to another server letting it know you have posted a reference to their post. The beauty is that a link to your blog is now included on their site.

15. Write articles to post around the web in article directories. Include a link to your blog in the author info box (See example in our signature below).

16. Make a commitment to blog everyday. 10 minutes a day can help increase your traffic as new content attracts search engine spiders. Put it on your calendar as a task every day at the same time.

You’ve put a lot of work into your blog, and you put more in every day. But without a steady stream of traffic, no one’s the wiser. Use these seven tips to get more traffic to your blog.
1) Do your SEO and keyword research homework. Make sure the HTML of your site is search engine friendly. Here’s a basic search engine optimization checklist:

3) Ping like you mean it. This is a way for you to raise your hand to the blog trackers when you’ve posted new content. You can do it site by site at places like Technorati, or go to Ping-o-matic (pingomatic.com) and mass-ping your blog to over 20 sites. Make sure your blog is set up to ping the appropriate sites every time you publish a post.
4) Feed your RSS. Make sure your blog has one and that it’s working. An RSS feed is a bit of XML that allows your blog to push content to RSS readers. That way people don’t have to visit your site to get your latest insights – they just open their RSS reader and read the news. If your blog is at Blogger.com, don’t worry about an RSS feed – its already been created for you. If you’re not at Blogger.com and your current blog doesn’t have RSS functionality, visit Feedcraft.com and sign up for their free service that will set up an RSS feed from any website (blog or not). 5) Swap links. Make a list of relevant sites you’d love to link to your blog. Write them a short friendly note and offer to let them use a few of your posts as content on their site in exchange for a link back to your site. Also, link to their sites from within one of your posts. Be sure to offer to exchange links in the links section of your blog. Most blog software programs offer this. 6) Be part of the blogging community. Go to other blog sites you admire. Contribute to their blogs in ways that add real value. Write good, thoughtful comments that are content rich. Give away what you know. Do it a lot – at least 3 posts a week. Over time you’ll become recognized as someone who has something worthwhile to say. As your reputation grows, people will seek out your blog. This is not an overnight process, but by paying your dues and building an audience you are positioning yourself to become a star. By the way, if your site doesn’t have the functionality for visitors at add comments, Haloscan (http://www.haloscan.com/) is a free service that will let them do so. It also allows for “trackbacking”, which is a way to manage pings.
7) Write your blog! Put everything you’ve got into it. Make it great. Post as frequently as you can. The search engines will note frequent postings. A blog that has a new post every day is obviously more active – and important – than a blog that was set up in 2003, has 4 posts, and has been dead since 2004. To really make your blog get noticed you’ll need to post at least 2-3 times a week.

how use iGoogle

iGoogle is a personalized Google homepage. You can put just about anything on it. Read the following steps to learn how.

Steps

1. Go to Google. In the upper left-hand corner, there should be a link that says "iGoogle".
2. Click on it and it will take you to the iGoogle section. There, you will see various different boxes (i.e. news, weather, horoscope, etc).
3. You can move its contents by dragging the boxes around to wherever you like on the page.
4. If you look above the boxes, you should see a link called "Add a Tab". You can click it, give it a name, and decide whether to check or uncheck the "I'm feeling lucky" box.
5. Click "Add Stuff>>", located on the right side near the top. This will take you to a page where you can search for add-ons in different categories, such as Fun & Games and Sports.
6. Search a criteria. For instance, "Bengals" under the Sports category; various items will appear. If you want "Yahoo! Sports - NFL# - Cincinnati Bengals News", click on the link. This allows you to view information about it, as well as a screenshot for some. If, after viewing this, you want to add it to your page, click the button that says "Add it now".
7. Once you get it on your page, you can always remove it by clicking the x in the top left corner. You can also add some useful gadgets like calendar, countdown, to do lists, email, gas price check, etc.


Tips

* Most of the time when you type in a name for your tab, it will automatically add content, depending on the tab's name. Uncheck the "I'm feeling lucky" box if you'd rather start from scratch and add your own gadgets.
* Use the "Add stuff" page wisely. The search bar at the top let's you find stuff to add to your page more easily. Also, you can click the "Add by URL" link to its right to add a link of your own. That way, you'll be able to add an RSS feed of a site or blog that you like that you wouldn't be able to find in the search results.
* A fairly new feature is Themes. The link is on the right side of the page, next to Add Stuff. When you click on this, it will come up with a box with several different themes to choose from. Click on the one you like and save it. You can then enter your zip code/hometown, and it will make the theme and colors change according to the time of day.


Warnings

* Either create an account or don't delete your cookies. Otherwise, everything will be lost and it will go back to the classic Google page.
* Don't add too many things to your page; it will load really slowly and increase the chance of browser crashing. Instead, you can create multiple tabs (e.g. one for games, another for RSS feeds, etc)..

Regardless of where you go in the world, money is the basic universal measurement for being "rich", or becoming a millionaire. And it seems like everyone wants to be a millionaire these days.
Steps

1. Open a savings account. Having a savings account is one of the many ways where you can set your money up to work for you. Your initial deposit of money grows whether or not you make additional deposits by interest. Learn the different types of accounts, including accounts like IRAs.

6. Find a mentor who has walked the walk and seek advice. Surround yourself with already-made millionaires. They can be found in several places, there's even a private online club where you can have a millionaire mentor personally show you how to make money in many areas online.
7. Win who wants to be a Millionare. If you don't know the answer to the question, just guess you have a 25% chance of getting it right, if you do know the answer, then say it.

* Don't use a credit card much, all of the excessive spending will come back to haunt you, and you may end up in debt. Try getting a debit card for daily purchases, they're a lot easier to deal with. Use your credit card only for emergencies, and to establish your good credit.
* Try not to take any big loans, because that's "big" money that you'll just have to pay back, and you could end up in debt for that also.
* Control your expenses. You get rich on the difference between that and what you make
* Make it a game. Looking for opportunities to make money is supposed to be fun. Never sweat it.
* Read. The more you know the more you will perceive to be possible, the more you can make.
* Make it about something else than money. It has to be fun. Fair enough you are doing it to become financially well off but few wealthy get off on that alone.
* Make friends with people who share the same goals and values. It will reduce your downtime, and give you pleasure when you are down.
* Make friends with people who are different than you. They can be the greatest source of inspiration and guidance if you are open to their different perspective.
* Help others. Learn to be a caring individual that makes the world better for people around yourself. It will lead to more positivity coming your way. Also, donating to charities can come back to you in the form of tax deductions.
* Plan. Define what you want, Act on it, and Evaluate often to see how you are going.
* It is OK to be cheap, but never be cheap on things that give you value.
* Never invest more than you are willing to lose. This is particularly important when you start. The older and more experienced you get the less risk you are likely to take, or the better you are capable of taking it.
* Think a lot on why you want to become rich, what exactly you want to buy, what lifestyle you want. Make it specific, and date your time for having it and why it matters to you
* Money represents value. You might come to the understanding that you make money on giving something that other value more than what they pay. You spend the money to get something that is more valuable.
* If possible, make the maximum out your retirement fund provided either by your government or your work. Then proceed to put as much money in to an account like a Roth IRA.
* Whoever said money can't buy happiness has never driven a sports car!
* Money can never buy true happiness. Do not lose your friends and family over making money.
* Stay out of street mean that get married and be serious

* Unless you are the wealthiest person in the world, there will always be someone with more money than you; there will always be someone with less money than you.
* Be prepared to make choices that are different than most people around you.
* Keep riches and wealth in perspective i.e. don't kill the goose that lays the golden egg. In other words, avoid neglecting the source of the wealth e.g. decent health.
* Money doesn't always buy happiness (but it can take care of almost everything else).
* Never steal money. So don't get any ideas about robbing the bank.
* Do not brag about how much money you have. Thieves will be more likely to target you. Consider investing in a means of personal defense such as a martial art or a firearm.

Steps

1. Create an account on Wordpress.com
2. Pick a title, and your url
* When you create a Wordpress, they automatically give you a theme called Kubrick. To change that theme, On your dashboard select Appearance, then themes, then browse through the themes.
3. Activate the theme you want.
* To add a post, click on New Post at the top. If you have many blogs, it will ask you which blog to make a new post

* If you do not like the premade layouts for your blog. google 'wordpress layouts' and browse through the results to find something you like.

* Wordpress's interface may seem difficult to learn at first. And a bit complicated at FIRST. Once you get used to it, it's easy.
* Always be careful of what you blog about. You never know who is reading your blog.
* Do not start a 'hate blog' its a little old and no one will like you in the end if all you do is tell others why you hate them.

When you become a member which is usually for free, you can create links to put on your website or various places to promote the products. When people purchase the products through your links, you will receive a portion of the profits.

1. To make money with affiliate programs start with Researching a topic or niche like one of the things that are most popular today ( See Google Trends).
2. Use the Google Keyword Research Tool to further break down the niche into more specific niches. Weight loss is a popular niche but it way too broad. People want to lose weight for vacation, weddings, summer, after the holidays, for special birthdays or events. Weight loss for summer and weight loss for weddings are niches
3. Find out how many people are searching for that topic by doing just a regular Google Search in quotes "quick weight loss". The quotes will give you how many sites there are on that topic. Try to find a topic that has under 5,000 results.
4. Create a Website around the topic that you have chosen and provide lots of information about the topic to create interest with your visitors. Refer them to purchase the product through a newsletter.
5. You can also promote affiliate programs without having a website if you want to do what is called article marketing. That is a process of writing articles on your product and finding free places online to post them such as article directories. You can put a link to your product with your affiliate code in some. (Be sure to check and see if you are allowed to do that.) Some place only allow a text link to your wesbite.
6. Research long-tail keywords to target. If you are selling a weight loss product the word weight loss is too broad of target and has tons of competition. You can break it down into phrases like lose weight in two weeks or lose weight for wedding.
7. Use the keywords strategically in your articles - in the headline, the first few sentences and throughout the body of the article to attract the search engines more.

Identity theft occurs once a thief assumes another person’s identity by using confidential information supposed to be known exclusively by that person. The thief will commit fraud using the person's name and important confidential information without the victim ever knowing about such transactions.

Start-a-Blog

A "blog", abbreviated word for weblog, is a web-based journal in which people can publish their thoughts and opinions on the Internet. It is everyone's home on the world wide web and probably their number one venting venues. Anyone can start a blog. It's straight-forward and, in a lot of cases, free.

Steps

  1. Find a decent blogging provider that appeals to you. The most popular providers include LiveJournal, Blogger, WordPress.com, and Xanga. These sites are pre-made with templates and push-button publishing that don't require much technical know-how.
  2. Once you sign up, you'll have a gallery of ready-made templates to choose from. With these, you can pick a color scheme and layout for your blog.
    • Most sites come with a set of predefined layouts and schemes that you can choose from. Select one and personalize it. Then add your name, interests, images, etc.
    • If you want to, get a more unique template, there are some sites up that have many of these that might make it look better. For example, PimpMyProfile.com or Pyzam.com.
  3. Add blogging freebies like buttons, images, blog chalks, imoods, tagboards (for example, myshoutbox.com), guest maps, guestbooks, comment boxes for readers' input, etc.
  4. Explore other blog sites that offer more features for a small fee, such as Typepad.com and ChoseIt.
  5. Decide whether you want your blog to be private or public: do you want any Internet visitor to be able to read your blog, or do you just want your friends and family to be able to read it? Most blog sites offer the ability to password-protect your published posts so only those who you approve of can view what you've written.
  6. After you've set up your blog, write a few posts to test it out, and make any adjustments to the layout or style that you see fit.   • Blog on a specific subject. You can't please everyone, so target a specific audience and go with it.

  • Avoid posting anything on your blog that might be personal to other people if just anyone can read your blog (example: Your uncle might object that it's published on the Internet that he is an alcoholic). If you want a private blog just for friends, use Xanga or any other password-protected blogging site.
  • Xanga and MySpace are good for beginners, but for more public blogs, sites like Typepad and Blogger are much more "respected".
  • Be wary of unwarranted attention. Blog stalking is possible; don't give out too much personal information such as name, location, school, etc.
  • Be prepared for some nasty comments and/or e-mails if you are blogging about "touchy" items, such as bad leadership in a school system, rumors about an official or local government. As long as the messages do not threaten bodily harm, you should be safe.
  • Always back up your commentary with reliable sources, and keep the sources varied (i.e. wikipedia isn't a good source and don't just quote from one newspaper).
  • Read the small print. If you don't, your blog's content may be "owned" by the company that puts it on the web for you.
  • Don't make your blogs like MySpace bulletins (adding random posts to suck in friends) and don't include your friend's name or websites in them either.

Wiki, wiki, wiki. So many Wikis in the world. You know they are out there but... can't find them. What should you do? Read this article on how to do it!

  1. Surf the web. Surf the web for Wiki websites. Try guessing names that would probably be a wiki. Such as WikiPedia. Put "www.Wiki[fill in name here](.com, org, edu, net).
  2. Socialize. Ask friends, family members, colleagues, club members or whoever you can think of! Maybe they found a new Wiki website.
  3. Use Wiki Search. Go to Wiki Search This may help you as it is a Wiki Search Engine and may find you a Wiki!
  4. Keep trying. Tried all these steps and couldn't find one? Make a new account on a Wiki website you know. Start over. You may find new and exciting friends on your account.

  • On your new account, do not vandalize! You will make more work for RC patrol, and vandalizing will not make you cool. You wont make friends with RC Patrol's or Authors who made the article that you vandalize!

Create-a-Sitemap

The easy way to create a Google Sitemap and enhance your websites rank.

Steps

1. Sign in to Google webmaster tools with your google account at www.google.com/webmasters/sitemaps . If you don't have a google account, you will need to create one.
2. Add your site to your webmaster tools account.
3. Verify your site, either by creating a blank html file with a certain name (generated by google), or by inserting a specific meta tag in you site index.
4. Go to http://www.auditmypc.com/web-master-tools.asp .
5. Click on the Webmaster Tool button.
6. Enter you site name and url.
7. Hit the play button in the bottom-left corner.
8. Click on the Sitemap tab.
9. Wait until all the files have finished loading, then select the one which location is the root of your website.
10. Click on the Save Sitemap button, then on the pop-up menu that comes up, click on Google Sitemap.
11. Save the file to you sites directory (or just anywhere if you don't have one).
12. Upload the file to your web server at the highest publicly available directory (normally "www" or "public_html").
13. Go back to Google's webmaster tools, and click on the Sitemaps tab.
14. Click "Add a Sitemap".
15. Select General Web Sitemap on the drop down list.
16. Enter the url of you sitemap. Eg. http://www.mysite.com/sitemap.xml
17. Click on Add Web Sitemap.
18. That's it! It can take up to a couple of days for Google to download your new sitemap.

* It's a good idea to check your site for broken link before you make a sitemap. You can do this online here: http://validator.w3.org/checklink

Warnings

* Make sure you haven't linked to any admin or password protected pages in your site. If you have, they will be included in the sitemap, so make sure you get rid of them first.

  1. Learn the ins and outs of your computer. Get a couple of books, go online, and practice HTML. One day you're going to be able to change channels from ABC to CBS to social networks. Learn the basics so that when TV and the Internet truly become one, you'll be ready.

  3. Don't get into pointless arguments. Whether you are right or wrong, getting into an argument is both irritating and disturbing on the internet. No one enjoys reading how right you are compared with the other person, or what his mom looks like. Be friendly.

How to Improve Search Engine Ranking

Showing up on search engines is one of the most critical ways to increase website traffic and expose your content, product or service to people who might be interested in what you have to offer. Most of the major search engines utilize an algorithm to determine where a website ranks. The search engines have set up specific criteria that a website must meet to get to the top of the list. The criteria are different for every engine, but all engines share several commonalities. It all boils down to the type and amount of content provided on a given website, the level of optimization done on the site, and the popularity of the website (link popularity/PageRank). Tailoring your website for improved search engine rankings is also known widely as search engine optimization, or SEO.

Steps

  1. Research the keywords. Decide what search queries you want to show up for. Do some research on how many people are actually searching for your site. Many times it is best to consult a "natural search engine optimization" professional during this process. There are several tools available from Google, Overture, and third party software developers that can make the keyword research process easier.
  2. Think outside of the box. Don't just focus on your main keywords. The first thing to realize when targeting keywords is that it is not all about ranking for the most popular keyword. The most successful search engine marketing and optimization campaigns target the most relevant keywords. For example, if you are a realtor in a particular area, don’t just optimize your site for “real estate." Optimize your site for dentist, florist, movie theaters, etc. You would be amazed how many unique visitors will come through to your site when "outside of the box" thinking occurs.
  3. Focus on the end user. If you spend too much time trying to please the Search Engine Spiders, you may forget about the end user. Think about what your target market needs to accomplish their goals, and then put it on your site so that they can find it. If you want to be relevant for specific keywords, than you need superior or at least highly competitive content. Write about 225-300 words of copy for each keyword and plant it on your site each day. Grow, grow, and grow. On average, one can target between 3-5 like keyword phrases per page. Make it as natural as possible and the Search Engines will reward you with a first-page ranking.
  4. Make sure that all the pages of the site have custom titles and descriptions. If your site is using the same tags for all the pages, you are not helping search engines figure out the subject or relevance of your individual pages. Regarding Meta Tags, there are 2 very important fields:
    • Title Tag - arguably the most important SEO tag for any website. Google supports approx. 60 characters in the title, while Yahoo allows for up to 110 characters in the title. It is important to target the most critical keywords in the Title. Every page should have a unique Title.
    • META Description Tag - These were once important but are no longer. Some engines do display the description defined, while others do not. Some search engines do read the description tag, and do utilize the content found within in the ranking process. Google, MSN and Yahoo give very little weight to no weight for these.
  5. Keep the structure, navigation and URL structure of your site simple enough for search engines to follow. Remember that search engines cannot parse your navigation if it's using flash or javascript. So try to stay close to standard HTML when it comes to Navigation. URLs with dynamic parameters (?, &, SIDs) usually do not perform when it comes to search engine rankings.
  6. Create a site map that tells people where everything is on your site. You will get about a 1% click through rate to your site map. However, it will do wonders for those who know what site maps do, and the Search Engines will like it as well.
  7. Build up your popularity. So now you have determined the right keywords on the right pages, you've created all of the necessary content, and you've optimized all of the content to the best of your capabilities. Congratulations - you're now in the top 80th percentile (from an optimization standpoint) of the websites listed for the keywords you're trying to target. So how do you get a 1st, 2nd, or 3rd page listing? The answer is quite simple: You have to be the most popular, too. That's right, it's a popularity contest. In other words, how many other websites know you (link to you), and how popular are they? This is typically referred to as link popularity, or called PageRank by Google. The more sites that link to your site the better, and the more popular the site linking to you the more value you will receive for your link popularity. The best types of "link building" are directory registration, text link advertising, and press release distribution. Try to offer valuable information or tools so that other people are motivated to link to your site. Well-linked sites (that don't use spamming) do better in search engines.

Tips

  1. Search engine algorithms assess the relevance of your page to any particular keyword by the content on your pages. For instance if you are selling "widgety widgets" on your site and you do not mention "widgety widgets" on your page text, search engines have very little to work with. Also make sure that you are not spamming search engines by using the same keyword over and over.
  2. Although not as important as they used to be, reciprocal links do still matter with Google. Reciprocate with similar websites and include keywords near the links on your site.
  3. If you want to optimize well for your city, state etc., make sure to sprinkle geographic search terms throughout. Include it in text as well as set apart. Search engines do not know where you are unless you tell them.
  4. Bold and italics can make your keywords stand out more with the search engines.
  5. Interior links within your site will improve SEO; Sitemaps are a great way to generate internal links and make your website better too!
  6. Correct broken links, search engines do not like dead ends.
  7. If you have over 30 keywords that mean business to you, then you might want to hire a Professional Search Engine Copywriting firm or outsource it to freelancers.
  8. Anyone who can go to google and type in "keyword research" will find very many tools that mixed with common sense should suffice quite well.
  9. Now when digging deeper to understand the traffic patterns of certain keywords use Wordtracker’s GTrends Tool. You can get an idea on the amount of competition on Google compared to the amount of searches. Now these numbers are far from accurate, BUTTT if you can kind of step back and take a broader look at things, don’t worry so much about the numbers but compare the trends since it shows the past history. See if its steady traffic, traffic that is going extinct, or traffic just starting to peak. By using this tool, you can many times find some golden opportunities.
  10. It really comes down to just using common sense. Just sit down and think, "What would other people search to find this? What would I search for to find this?" Try phrases in your keyword research tool to get new ideas and find the higher trafficked most targeted phrases. DO NOT look at the numbers spat back out at you by these programs as accurate numbers, they rarely are. You can still use these tools to get ideas on new keywords, search patterns of users, and many other things, that mixed with the information of trends in that area, can really help you. .


How to Create One Way Backlinks to Your Website

Everyone that does business on the internet, whether it is for social, news, or profitable purposes want more traffic. The real reason we put up a web page is so that it can be seen by others. Search Engine Optimizers would have you believe that on page factors and content is the most important part of the equation. Not so. Off page factors, especially linking, are the real gold mine of traffic.

Steps

  1. Determine your niche through keyword research: Use a tool like the inventory at overture to determine valid keywords and keyword search terms for your web site.
  2. Research your competition: Perform a search using the three major search engines for the Niche research terms you have selected for your web site.
  3. Determine the sites linking to your competition: The three major search engines all provide the “link:" command. Put this command in front of the website address that you would like to check the back links for and voila you have your competitor’s advocates.
  4. Write several articles 400-500 words long on the niche topic of your web site.
  5. Contact the owners of the web sites that link to your competition by email. Take care to be honest and cordial as many of today’s web masters have no patience for rude or impersonal requests.
  6. Submit your article with a short resource box that contains a “contextual" anchor text link containing the niche search phrase you determined in your initial research. You can create an anchor text link by using the html based tag.
  7. Submit your articles to article sites. Again be aware of others feelings and needs by reading and following site submission guidelines.
  8. As the shampoo bottle says, Lather – Rinse – Repeat! Establishing back links is a full time job and one that often escapes most web masters. No software, script, or email campaign will ever be as effective at creating one way back links like the steps above.
